You can select a parent row in a number of ways. One simple way that always works is as follows:
- If the parent row is collapsed (children hidden), expand it by clicking on the expand / collapse icon;
- Change the selection by clicking on an unrelated cell;
- Click on the expand / collapse icon (again) to collapse the parent row. Collapsing also selects the parent row.
